Modern Indoor Plant Stand in Birch Plywood

Where the 2×4 stand leans rustic, this one is built for a cleaner, more modern look: 3/4-inch birch plywood, left unfinished to show the natural laminated grain, with a simple four-leg frame that lifts a single potted plant off the floor.

Materials

  • Birch plywood (3/4 inch)
  • Wood glue
  • Wood filler
  • Sandpaper

Design

The design leans into the plywood itself as the finish. Each leg is cut and joined so the laminated edge grain is visible at the joinery, turning the material’s cross-section into part of the look rather than something to hide. No stain or topcoat was added, the plan is to let the birch tone naturally over time.

Lessons

  • Plywood edges telegraph every rough cut, so cutting square and sanding the exposed laminate layers matters more here than on solid lumber.
  • Leaving the wood unfinished means it will pick up color and wear faster than a sealed piece, worth planning for if it sits somewhere humid.
